About the job

๐Ÿš€ Product Designer | 12-Month FTC | 0โ†’1 Design Opportunity | Up to ยฃ75,000 | 3 days onsite in Central London I'm working with a business that is hiring its first dedicated Product Designer โ€” a genuinely interesting opportunity for someone who wants to introduce human-centred design into an organisation and help shape how product design is done going forward. This is a new role for the business, so you won't be stepping into an established design team or simply maintaining an existing design system. The initial 12-month FTC is about demonstrating the value of dedicated product design โ€” showing what can be achieved through a structured, evidence-led approach and helping establish what the longer-term design function could look like. It's a very hands-on role, covering: ๐Ÿ”น UX & interaction design ๐Ÿ”น Customer discovery and research ๐Ÿ”น Wireframing & prototyping ๐Ÿ”น Designing new screens and experiences ๐Ÿ”น Establishing design principles and best practice ๐Ÿ”น Creating design guidelines / a design handbook ๐Ÿ”น Usability & accessibility standards ๐Ÿ”น Developing consistent UI and interaction patterns ๐Ÿ”น Working closely with engineers and Product Managers ๐Ÿ”น Supporting and training software engineers ๐Ÿ”น Working across internal and third-party development teams ๐Ÿ”น Presenting and defending design decisions to senior stakeholders ๐Ÿ”น Supporting wider digital transformation initiatives The key thing they're looking for? Someone who can do the work, not just review it. UX and product design capability is more important than being a world-class researcher. They want someone who can take an ambiguous problem, create a solution, prototype it, test it and โ€” importantly โ€” explain why they made the decisions they did. You'll need to be comfortable using evidence, customer insight, testing and data to influence stakeholders rather than relying purely on opinion. The ideal person will be: ๐ŸŽฏ A strong hands-on Product/UX Designer ๐Ÿค Comfortable working closely with engineers ๐Ÿ’ก Experienced in ambiguous environments ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Confident communicating with senior stakeholders ๐Ÿ” Evidence-led in their approach โš™๏ธ Pragmatic and technically credible ๐Ÿš€ Comfortable building structure where none currently exists What matters is strong product thinking, hands-on execution and the ability to articulate the thinking behind your designs. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to be the person who establishes the foundations of product design within a business, rather than joining a large established design function.
