📍 London (Hybrid, 3 Days Per Week) 💰 Up to £160k DOE + Excellent Benefits Shape the Future of AI-Powered Scientific Software We're partnering with an innovative and rapidly growing technology company that's revolutionising how complex scientific and industrial environments operate through automation, AI, and advanced software platforms. This is a unique opportunity for a Staff Software Engineer to take ownership of the user experience across an industry-leading platform used in cutting-edge environments spanning life sciences, diagnostics, advanced manufacturing, and research. You'll be joining a highly talented, senior engineering team building the next generation of intelligent, AI-native products where users, developers, and autonomous agents all interact with the same powerful platform. Why This Role Stands Out Most software products manage data. This platform controls and orchestrates real-world operations where robots execute tasks, processes evolve in real time, systems fail, schedules change, and users need to make high-impact decisions quickly and confidently. You'll help define how people interact with automation, AI, and real-world systems at scale. This includes building experiences that:

  • Visualise complex real-time operational data
  • Explain automated decisions in a way users can trust
  • Empower users to troubleshoot critical issues quickly
  • Create intuitive workflow-building experiences
  • Deliver consistent experiences across UI, APIs, SDKs, CLI tools, and AI-driven interfaces
  • Help shape the future of personalised and AI-generated user experiences The Opportunity As a Staff Engineer, you'll operate as both a technical leader and hands-on contributor. You'll work closely with Product, Design, Data, and AI teams to define strategy while remaining deeply involved in delivery and architecture. Key responsibilities include:
  • Leading a high-performing software engineering squad
  • Driving end-to-end delivery of complex product initiatives
  • Owning key areas of platform architecture and technical direction
  • Building scalable UI and platform capabilities that accelerate engineering teams
  • Collaborating with Product and Design to solve customer problems from first principles

  • Influencing engineering standards, tooling, and ways of working
  • Helping define an AI-first software development culture What You'll Be Working On Examples of challenges include:
  • Building intelligent interfaces that explain complex system behaviour in real time
  • Creating decision-support tools for critical operational workflows
  • Designing workflow authoring experiences that feel more like modern development environments than traditional enterprise software
  • Delivering personalised experiences based on user role, context, and behaviour
  • Building seamless experiences for browser users, developers, system integrators, and AI agents
  • Creating products that combine real-world automation with AI-native interfaces Technology Environment The engineering team embraces the best tool for the job, with technologies including:

  • A full-stack mindset and appreciation of user experience across every layer of a platform
  • Experience taking products from concept through to delivery and adoption
  • Strong architectural and technical leadership skills
  • A passion for solving difficult customer problems rather than simply delivering features
  • Previous experience mentoring or leading senior engineers
  • Exposure to AI-enabled products and modern software engineering practices Ideal candidates will bring:
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience
  • Experience building commercial software products
  • A track record of balancing speed, quality, and scalability
