CapEQâ

Own the finance function at an independent, B Corp-certified M&A advisory firm, on hours that fit around the rest of your life. We're looking for an experienced finance leader to run CapEQ's finances and be the commercial voice helping the founders make decisions. It's a senior role in a small team, and it's part-time by design. The deadlines are fixed; when and where you do the work is largely up to you. If you've stepped back from a senior finance role to look, you're looking for flexibility in your working day, or you simply want your career on your own terms, we wrote this role with you in mind. A career break is not something you'll need to explain away here. The role at a glance Hours Around 15–22 hours a week, worked when it suits you around month-end and board deadlines Contract Permanent, part-time Salary £60k- £80k FTE, paid pro rata, plus a full share of the annual profit-share bonus Location Mostly remote, with time in our Theale office once or twice a week Reports to James Pugh, co-founder Starting When the right person is ready. We'll wait for them   Why CapEQ CapEQ™ | B Corp is an award-winning, partner-led UK M&A advisory boutique and Europe's first certified B Corp M&A firm. The company advises founder-led businesses, typically with enterprise values between £10–£150m, on sell-side and buy-side transactions. CapEQ supports clients through preparation, negotiation, and completion, aiming to secure exceptional value while protecting people, culture, and legacy. The firm combines commercial excellence with a strong commitment to responsible business practices and long-term stakeholder impact. You'd report straight to a co-founder and own the finance function outright. There's no layer of management between you and the decisions, and your judgement will shape how the firm grows. We pay fairly and share our profits with the whole team. We also make real time and budget available for wellbeing, because we've found that people who aren't stretched thin do better work. When we get together, it's been track days, a cookery school and volunteering, and there's usually something in the diary. You're welcome to join in when it works for you!   The role You'd be the person the leadership team turns to for financial and commercial advice, and the person who makes sure the numbers behind that advice are right. Leading the finance function

  • Produce and own the monthly board pack, giving the directors timely, accurate reporting with commentary they can act on.
  • Advise the founders on strategy, pricing, investment and the commercial implications of the decisions in front of them.
  • Lead business planning, budgeting and financial modelling.
  • Run monthly cashflow forecasting and track it against actuals. Running the numbers

  • Work with our external accountants on year-end accounts, tax filings and audit requirements.
  • Make sure the right insurance is in place and renewals are handled ahead of time. You'll also be the first port of call for finance and business-administration questions across the firm, and we'd welcome your view on how the back office should run as we grow. About you Essential
  • A qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • Senior finance experience as a financial controller, finance director or CFO, ideally in an SME or mid-market business.
  • Strong working knowledge of VAT, including partial exemption.

  • Confident working independently and switching between strategic and operational work in the same week. Desirable
  • Experience advising founders directly.
  • Board-pack preparation and governance reporting.
  • Managing relationships with external accountants.
  • A background in professional or financial services, though it's genuinely not essential. How to apply Send us a covering letter and your CV, through our dedicated portal here: https://pages.capeq.com/careers-part-time-finance-officer-capeq
