Electronics Design Engineer – High-Speed PCB & FPGA London | Hybrid | £55,000–£65,000 + benefits What if the hardware you designed was part of the security boundary itself? We're recruiting for a specialist cybersecurity technology business developing hardware-enforced security products for defence, government and other highly secure environments. This isn't a role where you'll spend your time maintaining legacy designs or simply reviewing somebody else's PCB work. You'll be developing complex electronics from concept through to working, qualified hardware – designing circuitry, laying out PCBs, bringing boards to life in the lab, solving problems and supporting products through validation and certification. The role You'll work across the electronics development lifecycle, including:

  • Multilayer, high-speed digital PCB design
  • Schematic capture and physical PCB layout
  • PCB stack-up, controlled impedance and signal integrity
  • Differential signalling, grounding, termination and high-speed routing
  • Component selection and circuit design
  • Prototype build, board bring-up and debugging
  • Verification and validation
  • EMC/EMI and environmental qualification
  • Supporting external certification and test-house activity
  • Design for manufacture and production support
  • Working alongside FPGA, software and wider engineering teams There is also significant use of FPGA technology, so experience with VHDL or Verilog would be particularly valuable. What are we looking for? Ideally, you'll have around 3–5 years' commercial electronics/hardware development experience and a degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline. Experience with Altium Designer would be particularly useful, alongside some combination of: High-speed digital design | Multilayer PCB layout | Controlled impedance | Differential pairs | Signal integrity | FPGA/VHDL | EMC/EMI | Hardware validation Experience within defence, aerospace, cybersecurity, communications or another highly regulated engineering environment would also be advantageous. Why is this one different? The technology is the interesting part. This business develops high-assurance cybersecurity technology where security can be physically enforced in dedicated hardware, rather than relying solely on conventional software controls. The technology is used within defence, government, intelligence and mission-critical environments, including the secure movement of information between networks operating at different security classifications. For an electronics engineer, that creates an unusual opportunity: the PCB and FPGA technology you develop isn't simply there to support the product. The electronics is part of what makes the product secure. If you're an Electronics Design Engineer who enjoys owning hardware from initial design through to working, tested product, we'd be interested in hearing from you. Apply now to find out more.
