Apprentice CAD Technician Location: Heritage House, Maidstone Working pattern: 4 days in the office / 1 day at college Employment: Full-time Apprenticeship We are looking for an enthusiastic Apprentice CAD Technician to join our team at Heritage House in Maidstone. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who is already studying a CAD Technician course at college, ideally in their second year or with some existing knowledge and experience of CAD, and who is looking to develop their skills within the construction industry. You will work alongside our experienced design and technical team, gaining practical experience of using CAD within a busy carpentry and joinery business. You will have the opportunity to see how technical drawings are developed and used throughout real construction projects, while continuing your college studies one day a week. The Role Working under the guidance of our senior technicians and designers, you will: -         Assist with creating and modifying CAD drawings for carpentry and joinery projects. -         Interpret architectural and technical drawings and develop your understanding of construction drawings. -         Prepare and update detailed technical drawings and project documentation. -         Support the design team with layouts, measurements and material specifications. -         Maintain accurate digital drawing files and project information. -         Develop your knowledge of how CAD is used within the construction and carpentry industry. -         Work collaboratively with colleagues in the office and, where appropriate, gain an understanding of how drawings translate into work on site. Career Aspirations & Progression This apprenticeship is designed to be the starting point of a long-term career in construction design and management. Our goal is to develop the successful apprentice into a Design Manager, specialising in carpentry and joinery. As well as developing your CAD and technical drawing skills, you will build an understanding of construction, materials, manufacturing, installation and project delivery. As your knowledge and experience grow, you will have the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility and work closely with our design, estimating, project and site teams. We want to invest in someone who is ambitious and wants to build a career with us. The long-term career pathway we are working towards is: Apprentice CAD Technician → CAD Technician → Design Manager This provides the opportunity to develop into a specialist carpentry and joinery Design Manager, combining technical design knowledge with practical construction experience and project responsibility. What We Offer You will receive training, support and mentoring from an experienced team, giving you the opportunity to build on your existing CAD knowledge while developing valuable construction and joinery industry experience. The role will be based at Heritage House in Maidstone, working four days a week in the office and one day at college, providing the opportunity to put your college learning into practice within a professional working environment. About You We are looking for someone who: -         Is already studying a CAD Technician course at college, ideally with some existing CAD knowledge and experience. -         Is genuinely interested in developing a career within the construction industry, rather than pursuing a career in architecture. -         Has an interest in carpentry and joinery – this would be a real advantage. -         Has good attention to detail and enjoys working accurately with technical information and measurements. -         Is keen to learn, ask questions and develop their technical skills. -         Can communicate well and work as part of a team. -         Is organised, proactive and able to follow instructions and company procedures. -         Has a willingness to learn how CAD drawings are used in a real construction environment. The Opportunity If you are ambitious, technically minded and interested in seeing your drawings become something real on site, this could be an excellent opportunity to start your career in construction design. We are looking for someone who wants to learn, contribute and progress — with the ambition to develop from an Apprentice CAD Technician into a specialist Carpentry & Joinery Design Manager.
