HIL Maintenance Engineer

📍 Gaydon, Warwickshire | On-site Akkodis is looking for an experienced HIL Maintenance Engineer to support a high-profile automotive cyber security and embedded systems programme. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on maintaining and supporting Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) test environments, ECU test assets and lab infrastructure. You'll play a key role in ensuring test rigs remain operational, supporting software updates, fault investigation and hardware modifications to enable validation and development activities. The role would suit someone with strong HIL experience who enjoys both software and hardware troubleshooting, including ECU flashing, harness modification and electronics work. What you'll be doing:

• Maintaining HIL rigs and associated test equipment
• Flashing ECUs with multiple software versions
• Troubleshooting rig, hardware and connectivity issues
• Building and modifying cable harnesses
• Performing soldering, hardware repairs and equipment upgrades
• Supporting embedded ECU software deployments and updates
• Maintaining laboratory assets, configurations and test infrastructure
• Working with engineering stakeholders to support validation and development activities
• Supporting Linux-based and network-connected test environments What we're looking for:
• 7+ years' experience working with HIL systems
• Experience flashing and managing ECU software releases
• Strong understanding of rig maintenance and embedded systems environments
• Experience building and repairing wiring harnesses
• Practical soldering and electronics skills
• Familiarity with Linux operating systems
• Understanding of networking fundamentals
• Experience working within Agile development teams
