The Trust includes five major teaching hospitals: the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Northern General Hospital, Charles Clifford Dental Hospital, Weston Park Cancer Hospital, and Jessop Wing Maternity Hospital. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining core digital infrastructure, ensuring secure, reliable, and high-performing systems that support clinical and operational services across the Trust. Day-to-day tasks include monitoring and managing networks and servers, diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues, and overseeing system administration activities such as configuration, patching, and capacity planning. The postholder will collaborate with clinical and corporate teams to understand requirements, contribute to digital transformation initiatives, and ensure that data, systems, and services are resilient and compliant with relevant standards. The role also involves documenting technical processes, mentoring junior team members, and participating in on-call or escalation support as required. Qualifications

  • Strong troubleshooting skills with experience diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues across digital, data, and infrastructure environments.
  • Proven expertise in infrastructure design, implementation, and maintenance, including servers, storage, cloud or virtualized platforms.
  • Solid system administration skills, including configuration management, patching, monitoring, and performance tuning of Windows and/or Linux environments.
  • Knowledge of networking concepts and technologies, including routing, switching, firewalls, and VPNs.
  • Experience with network security practices, including access control, encryption, vulnerability management, and compliance with security standards.
  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience in IT, computer science, engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., Cisco, Microsoft, CompTIA, ITIL) are desirable.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to non-technical stakeholders and to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience in healthcare, public sector, or other highly regulated environments is an advantage.
