tutrSTEM

Company Description TutrSTEM, founded by GirlSTEM, is an inclusive tutoring service that connects university students with sixth form learners for one-to-one academic support. Tutors have recently completed the same exams and coursework their tutees are preparing for, enabling highly relevant and up-to-date guidance. The service covers all STEM subjects, as well as Psychology, Economics, Geography, and a full range of admissions tests. Although it grew from a mission to support girls in STEM, TutrSTEM is co-ed and open to all students, with plans to expand into GCSE tutoring. The organization emphasizes accessibility, academic excellence, and supportive mentoring for diverse learners. Role Description The Online STEM Tutor will deliver one-to-one remote tutoring sessions to sixth form students across STEM subjects and potentially related areas such as Psychology, Economics, and Geography. In this part-time role, the tutor will explain complex concepts clearly, guide students through exam-style questions and coursework, and tailor sessions to individual learning needs and goals. Typical responsibilities include preparing lesson materials, reviewing students' progress, providing constructive feedback, and supporting exam and admissions test preparation. The tutor will communicate with students online, maintain professional and inclusive interactions, and update any required records or session notes. This is a remote position, allowing tutors to work flexibly alongside their university studies or other commitments. Qualifications

  • Strong subject knowledge in one or more STEM areas (e.g., Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science) and confidence with relevant sixth form curricula.
  • Effective communication and teaching skills, including the ability to explain complex ideas clearly, adapt to different learning styles, and provide supportive feedback.
  • Ability to plan and structure tutoring sessions, organize materials, and manage time efficiently in a remote environment.
  • Comfort using online tools and platforms for video calls, document sharing, and collaborative work.
  • Recent experience with sixth form exams, coursework, or admissions tests (e.g., having sat these assessments within the last few years).
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive, non-discriminatory learning environment and respecting diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Enrollment in or completion of a university degree program in a relevant field is highly beneficial.
  • Prior tutoring, teaching, or mentoring experience is an advantage but not strictly required for motivated candidates with strong academic records.
