Role Overview We are looking for a hands-on Electronics & Production Engineer to support the build, test, quality assurance and continuous improvement of our electronic products. Working closely with Engineering, Firmware, QA and Operations, the role covers the full build and test life-cycle, from incoming component inspection through to assembly, firmware installation, testing and final preparation for dispatch. This role would suit someone who enjoys practical electronics and wants to develop within a fast-moving technology and manufacturing environment. Responsibilities

  • Build and assemble finished units, bringing together PCB's, single-board computers (SBC's) and other components into the final product.
  • Carry out manual quality assurance checks on assembled units, identifying faults, defects or inconsistencies before products are packaged and shipped.
  • Test incoming parts and components and perform appropriate checks during assembly to confirm that they are fit for use.
  • Update and flash devices with the latest approved firmware as part of the build and test process.
  • Carry out hardware diagnostics to identify and investigate faults in PCB's, SBC's and assembled units, supporting troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
  • Use Linux shell commands and basic Python scripts where required during device configuration, testing and troubleshooting.
  • Perform soldering and prototype board modifications, including cut and strap modifications, where required.
  • Assemble and test custom cables to defined specifications.
  • Support fault finding and investigation of units that fail build or test processes, escalating recurring or significant issues to the appropriate engineering team.
  • Monitor component and consumable stock levels and support the controlled ordering and replenishment of parts to maintain production continuity.
  • Package finished units ready for dispatch, ensuring products are protected and presented to a consistent standard.
  • Maintain lab equipment, tools, components and stock in a safe, clean and organised manner.
  • Follow technical documentation, build instructions, assembly drawings and test procedures accurately.
  • Support the maintenance and continuous improvement of build and test documentation.
  • Identify recurring production, quality or component issues and work with Engineering, QA and Operations to support root-cause investigation and resolution.
  • Support prototype builds, new product introduction and design for manufacture activities where required.
  • Contribute to discussions around product quality, manufacturing efficiency and continuous improvement. Skills and Experience
  • A qualification in Electronics, Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or another relevant technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • A good understanding of basic electronic components, circuits and PCB assemblies.
  • Practical soldering skills, or a willingness to develop them.
  • Familiarity with flashing or updating firmware on electronic devices, or a willingness to learn.
  • Familiarity with Linux shell commands and basic Python scripting would be advantageous.
  • Experience in an electronics assembly, production, manufacturing or laboratory environment would be advantageous.
  • An interest in hardware diagnostics and fault finding with a willingness to develop practical skills in diagnosing electronic hardware issues.
  • Good attention to detail and the ability to follow technical documentation, drawings and build instructions accurately.
  • Awareness of ESD precautions and Health and Safety best practice, or a willingness to learn.
  • Comfortable using hand tools and basic electronic test equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with Engineering, QA, Operations and other colleagues.
  • Good organisational skills, particularly around component control, stock management and maintaining an organised working environment.
  • A willingness to learn and develop within a growing engineering and manufacturing organisation.
