Full Stack Developer
at Innovative Physics UK Skilled Worker EmployerIntelligent Solutions to Complex Challenges Looking for a Full Stack Development role that's a little different? Build software where great user experience meets real-world science, engineering and cutting-edge technology. The Role We are looking for a Full Stack Developer to design and build intuitive, high-quality applications for our scientific and engineering technologies. You'll work with real-time data from radiation detectors, imaging systems and sensors, transforming complex information into clear, responsive and highly functional user interfaces. You'll work across the stack, from creating intuitive frontend experiences to developing the backend architecture that reliably moves data from our hardware and sensors to the user. Working alongside software developers, physicists, hardware and embedded engineers, you'll be part of multidisciplinary teams developing complete technology solutions – giving you the opportunity to see your software interacting with real hardware in real-world applications. We're looking for strong full-stack development skills, technical curiosity and the ability to understand complex systems. We're a small, ambitious technology company, which means you'll have real responsibility, direct access to technical specialists and decision-makers, and the opportunity to see the impact of your work. Responsibilities
- Scientific UI/UX: Design and develop clear, intuitive and visually effective interfaces for scientific, imaging and engineering applications.
- Real-Time Data: Develop interfaces capable of presenting multiple real-time data streams, including video, sensor information and imaging overlays.
- Full Stack Development: Develop robust frontend and backend systems that reliably move and process data between hardware, services and the user interface.
- System Architecture: Contribute to scalable software and system architectures suitable for production applications.
- Integration: Develop and maintain APIs and interfaces between software, hardware and firmware components.
- Software Quality: Apply good software engineering practices including testing, version control, CI/CD, security and performance optimisation.
- Cross-Disciplinary Development: Work closely with software developers, physicists, hardware and embedded engineers to understand technical requirements and turn them into effective software solutions. About You We're looking for someone who combines strong full-stack development skills with technical curiosity and an eye for creating great user experiences. You should be comfortable working beyond a conventional web application and interested in understanding how your software interacts with hardware, sensors and the wider system. Requirements:
- 3+ years' relevant commercial experience in full-stack, web application or software development.
- A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or another relevant technical discipline, or equivalent experience, together with experience in backend server development and cloud architecture, platforms, and services.
- Strong experience with modern web technologies such as JavaScript/TypeScript and React, Angular or similar frameworks, cloud architecture and backend servers
- Experience developing and maintaining production-level applications.
- Good understanding of software and system architecture, including frontend-backend integration, APIs and data handling.
- Experience applying modern software engineering practices including version control, testing and CI/CD.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
- A strong approach to ownership, code quality and attention to detail. Desirable:
- Experience with real-time data, video streaming or data visualisation.
- Experience with imaging systems, image processing or computer vision.
- Experience with thin client or web based control systems.
- Familiarity with hybrid deployment environments, including local, on-premises and cloud.
- Experience integrating software with hardware, firmware or embedded systems.
- Experience with scientific instrumentation, engineering applications or medical imaging.
- An understanding of secure software design, performance optimisation and scalability.
- Mentoring or technical leadership experience. Why Join IPL?
- Small company. More flexibility. Work closely with colleagues across the business, have direct access to decision makers and see the impact of your work.
- Software meets the real world. Develop applications that interact with sensors, imaging systems and hardware rather than working solely on conventional web applications.
- Interesting, varied technology. Work across software, imaging, physics, engineering, AI and advanced sensing technologies.
- See your software in action. Follow your work from development and integration through to complete systems and real-world applications.
- A workplace with character. Work from our beautiful period building at Landguard Manor, providing a distinctive and welcoming working environment.
- A friendly team culture. We make time to connect, with weekly informal team catch-ups, summer BBQs, Christmas dinner and other company events.
- Fair and responsible employment. IPL is a Living Wage Foundation accredited employer, committed to providing a positive and supportive working environment.
- Room to grow. Broaden your technical experience, take on responsibility and develop alongside the company. About Innovative Physics Ltd (IPL) Innovative Physics Ltd (IPL) is a dynamic technology company working at the forefront of physics, engineering, radiation detection, software and AI. We design, build and integrate complex solutions using our own intellectual property, working with customers in the UK and internationally. Please send cover letters and CVs to recruitment@inphys.com
