Senior Staff Software Engineer
Spencer ScottWe're looking for a Staff Software Engineer for a global financial services organistaion. This will be a hybrid role working 2-3 days per week between the Company's Surrey office with the odd visit into the London City office. We're looking for a Staff Level Software Engineer to take on this deeply technical, authoritative engineering position which combines strategic thinking with hands-on execution rather than operating purely at architecture or strategy level. Remuneration: The Company will offer a starting salary up to £150,000 + numerous benefits including a high % pension scheme, high % annual bonus, private medical allowance for you and direct family members, educational and training allowance plus lots more! *Unfortunately, VISA Sponsorship is not available and we are looking for candidates that are able to commute to Surrey and London for office based work. The core focus for this position is SDLC transformation. The biggest priorities are standardising and automating the route from idea/code through CI/CD to production, reducing friction across the engineering organisation, and incorporating AI/agentic engineering into that lifecycle. Despite this being a leadership position, hands-on software engineering credibility is essential. Candidates need a genuine software engineering foundation, including experience writing code and deploying cloud native services. Recent experience can lean towards DevOps/platform work, but somebody with no real coding background would not fit this opportunity. Technology adaptability matters more than one exact stack, candidates do not necessarily need to come directly from C#/.NET or Azure if they have demonstrated an ability to move across technologies. This Staff Software Engineering position cuts across five autonomous product stacks. It needs to find reusable capabilities and engineering standards across them without eliminating stack autonomy. The person will work closely with architecture, platform/enablement and engineering leadership. AI responsibility is complementary to the existing AI platform work. Rather than primarily building the central AI harness, this person is expected to help customise and implement capabilities within product stacks, while looking more broadly at the end-to-end SDLC. This is not a backlog-execution role. The successful person is expected to identify problems, define solutions and execute them within broader technology strategy guardrails. Influence and people skills are critical. Technical credibility alone is insufficient. The individual needs to gain buy-in across senior engineering groups, evangelise better approaches, navigate potentially sensitive changes and collaborate effectively. Technology Environment: The environment uses: C#, .NET / .NET Core, Microsoft Azure, GitHub (an increasingly strategic platform), Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines and automation, and engineering analytics tooling including the LinearB pilot.
