Job Overview:

We are seeking a highly motivated Staff Applications Engineer specializing in Performance Analysis. This role offers an outstanding chance to help customers achieve world-class performance and efficiency on Arm AGI CPU platforms and other Arm SoC products!

In this position, you will collaborate closely with customers, software partners, and internal engineering groups to address performance problems. You will improve workloads and assist in deploying applications on Arm-based systems successfully. Your knowledge of system performance analysis, CPU and GPU design, and workload tuning will help customers realize the full capabilities of Arm SoC.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical depth with excellent communication skills and a passion for solving sophisticated customer challenges.

Responsibilities:

Customer Support:

  • Interact directly with customers to grasp application performance needs and deployment obstacles.
  • Analyze and resolve intricate workload performance issues across the application, operating system, runtime, and hardware stack.
  • Support customer blocking issues involving performance bottlenecks, scalability issues, and workload migration challenges.
  • Deliver performance findings, optimization recommendations, and standard process mentorship to customers.

Workload Enablement and Optimization:

  • Support customers in migrating, validating, and optimizing workloads on Arm AGI CPU platforms.
  • Find opportunities to improve application performance, resource utilization, scalability, and power efficiency.
  • Analyze workload behavior and optimize CPU, memory, cache, storage, and I/O performance.
  • Support a wide range of workloads including AI/ML inference and training, cloud-native applications, databases and analytics, High Performance Computing (HPC), enterprise and web services, and virtualized and containerized environments.

Performance Assessment and Evaluation:

  • Perform system-level performance investigations using industry-standard profiling and tracing tools.
  • Analyze PMU data, CPU pipeline behavior, cache efficiency, memory bandwidth utilization, and NUMA characteristics.
  • Complete benchmarking studies to evaluate workload performance and identify optimization opportunities.
  • Develop consistent approaches for performance characterization and root-cause analysis.

Collaboration and Technical Leadership:

  • Collaborate closely with Arm architecture, silicon, firmware, kernel, compiler, and software ecosystem groups.
  • Provide customer feedback to product and engineering organizations to improve future Arm solutions.
  • Contribute to performance tuning guides, guidelines, and customer enablement materials.
  • Mentor junior engineers on performance analysis techniques and Arm optimization methodologies.

Required Skills and Experience :

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, or Master's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a similar area.
  • Background in performance engineering, software optimization, systems engineering, or similar technical positions.
  • Strong understanding of modern CPU architecture and system performance fundamentals.
  • Experience with Linux performance analysis tools.
  • Strong programming and scripting skills.
  • Experience working in Linux-based environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and customer-facing skills.

"Nice To Have" Skills and Experience :

  • Experience working with Arm architecture and Arm server-class platforms.
  • Experience with workload migration from x86 to Arm platforms.
  • Familiarity with performance optimization for AI/ML frameworks, databases, and cloud-native applications.
  • Understanding of compiler optimizations using GCC and LLVM/Clang.
  • Experience with containerized workloads, Kubernetes, and virtualization technologies.
  • Knowledge of hardware PMUs and low-level performance monitoring techniques.
  • Experience with industry-standard benchmarks.

Success Metrics

  • Successful resolution of customer performance issues and partner concerns.
  • Acceleration of customer workload adoption and deployment on Arm SoC.
  • Proven workload performance improvements through analysis and optimization.
  • Positive customer feedback and happiness.
  • Contributions to Arm performance methodologies, guidelines, and ecosystem enablement.
