Learning Support Assistant (Reception)

Hours: 8:30am - 12:00pm, Monday to Friday (with potential for additional hours in the future)

Start Date: ASAP

Contract: Temporary/Ongoing

We are seeking a compassionate and patient Learning Support Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Reception-aged child within a primary school setting.

The pupil benefits from a calm, nurturing approach and currently works outside of the classroom in a dedicated learning space, following an individual timetable tailored to their needs. The primary focus of this role is to support the child in remaining settled, regulated, and engaged throughout the school day.

The Role

• Provide consistent 1:1 support to a Reception-aged child.
• Build a positive and trusting relationship to help the child feel safe and supported.
• Support the child through play-based activities and gradually encourage engagement with learning tasks when appropriate.
• Follow individual support plans, routines, and strategies set by the school.
• Promote emotional wellbeing and help the child access their educational environment successfully.
• Work collaboratively with teaching staff and the wider school team.

The Ideal Candidate

• Has experience working with children in an educational, care, or support setting.
• Demonstrates patience, empathy, and resilience.
• Understands the importance of building strong, trusting relationships with young children.
• Has experience supporting children with additional needs, social, emotional, or behavioural challenges (desirable but not essential).
• Can remain calm and consistent in a range of situations.

Essential Requirements

• A valid Enhanced DBS Certificate registered on the DBS Update Service is essential.
• Right to work in the UK.
• Ability to provide satisfactory references covering recent employment.
