Gambling Support Practitioner

Permanent | Full time – 35 hours per week Location: Yorkshire and Humber – home based, with travel across the region as required Salary: £29,479 pa This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference to people experiencing gambling-related harm and help them take positive steps towards recovery and lasting behavioural change. Founded in 1997, GamCare is one of the leading providers of information, advice and support for anyone affected by gambling harms. We operate the National Gambling Helpline, deliver free treatment services across multiple regions of Great Britain and raise awareness of gambling harms through prevention programmes. As a Gambling Support Practitioner, you will manage your own caseload and provide safe, effective and person-centred psychosocial interventions to adults at different stages of their recovery. Working within GamCare's Model of Care, you will undertake assessments, develop formulations and co-produce recovery plans, delivering brief, structured and relapse-prevention interventions according to individual need. You will use evidence-based approaches, including CBT-informed and motivational techniques, and deliver support through a combination of face-to-face, digital and telephone appointments. Alongside treatment delivery, you will play an important role in identifying and managing risk, including safeguarding concerns, mental health needs and financial vulnerability. You will work within established governance and professional frameworks, exercising sound judgement and escalating concerns appropriately where greater complexity or risk is identified. You will also work closely with colleagues, specialist GamCare services and external partner organisations to provide joined-up, recovery-focused support. Accurate case recording, monitoring outcomes and contributing to service quality and improvement will form an important part of the role. About you We are looking for someone who can build trust with people experiencing challenging circumstances and support them to make meaningful and sustainable changes in their lives. You will have a relevant qualification in health, social care, psychology, addiction or a related discipline, at NVQ Level 3 or equivalent, or demonstrable equivalent experience. You should have experience of managing a client caseload and delivering psychosocial interventions using approaches such as cognitive behavioural and motivational techniques. Experience of working with complex needs, safeguarding and risk, ideally within a health, social care or similar environment, will also be important. You will be a confident and empathetic communicator, able to engage effectively with people from a wide range of backgrounds while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries. You will be organised, comfortable managing competing priorities and confident using case management systems, digital platforms and remote-delivery tools. Previous experience of supporting people affected by gambling-related harm or other addictions would be advantageous but is not essential. As the role includes in-person service delivery, you will need to live within the Yorkshire region and be able to travel to different locations when required. What we offer We want colleagues to feel supported, valued and able to balance their work with life outside work. Benefits include:

  • 33 days' annual leave including bank holidays, pro-rated for part-time colleagues and increasing to a maximum of 38 days with service
  • A generous pension scheme, with 6% employer contribution
  • Discretionary company sick pay after six months' service
  • A 24-hour Employee Assistance Programme
  • Premium access to the CALM app for you and up to five dependants For further details and to apply please click the apply button. The closing date for applications is Sunday 25 October 2026 at 23:59pm. Pre-screening interviews will take place on 30 October 2026 via MS Teams. Interviews will take place in person during the week commencing 2 November 2026. This role requires a Basic DBS.
