Sopra Steria

At Sopra Steria Aerospace, Defence & Security (ADS), we work on some of the UK's most critical Defence and National Security programmes, delivering technology solutions that help protect the UK and support those responsible for keeping our country safe.

We are looking for a DevOps Engineer to join our team, working within a highly secure, technically complex environment where the work you do has a real purpose and impact.

This is an opportunity to work with a broad range of technologies, tackle challenging technical problems and play an important role in maintaining and improving the platforms that underpin mission-critical services. You will be working with Linux, Kubernetes, automation, infrastructure as code and Elastic technologies, working alongside experienced engineers and technical specialists to ensure our systems remain secure, resilient and reliable.

The role offers a varied mix of hands-on engineering, problem-solving, operational support and project delivery, giving you the opportunity to take ownership, influence improvements and develop your technical expertise.

We're equally committed to your development. Whether you're looking to deepen your knowledge of DevOps technologies, develop your automation skills or progress your career, you'll have access to training, development opportunities and a supportive team that encourages collaboration, knowledge sharing and continuous learning.

You'll also benefit from flexible benefits and excellent career progression opportunities within a business that offers exposure to a wide range of technologies, projects and career pathways.

Due to the secure nature of the programme, this is an on-site role based in Gloucestershire

  • Working with Elastic technologies, supporting the monitoring, maintenance and continuous improvement of Elastic-related services, including Elasticsearch, Kibana and Elastic Cloud Enterprise.
  • Driving automation and efficiency, using scripting, infrastructure as code and configuration management tools to streamline processes, reduce manual intervention and improve operational reliability.
  • Contributing to project delivery and service improvements, working alongside engineers, architects and technical specialists to implement changes, enhance existing platforms and support new capabilities.
  • Taking ownership of technical activities, proactively monitoring system health, managing changes and collaborating with customers, suppliers and internal teams while following established ITIL service management processes.

What you'll bring

  • Experience working in a DevOps, Platform Engineering or Infrastructure Engineering role, supporting complex enterprise or secure technology environments.
  • Strong technical knowledge of Linux operating systems, including administration, troubleshooting, performance monitoring and supporting production services.
  • Experience with containerisation and orchestration technologies, particularly Docker, Kubernetes or similar virtualised infrastructure environments.
  • Practical experience of automation, scripting and infrastructure as code, using technologies such as Bash, Ansible, Terraform or equivalent tools.
  • A good understanding of networking and infrastructure security, including routing, firewalls, proxies, authentication, digital certificates and PKI.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate complex technical issues, work collaboratively and take ownership of delivering reliable solutions.

It would be great if you had

  • Experience with the Elastic Stack, including Elasticsearch, Kibana or Elastic Cloud Enterprise (ECE).
  • Experience using Ansible, Terraform or Bash to automate infrastructure management and configuration.
  • Knowledge of Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and certificate authority services.
  • Awareness of Apache NiFi and data integration technologies.
