About this opportunity:

Join Ericsson Research and help shape the future of cloud and compute technologies for 6G and beyond. You will be part of a globally connected research team in Bangalore working on cutting-edge topics such as Advanced Cloud Hardware and Federated AI Compute. Our research spans high-performance computing, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, virtualization, and intelligent compute platforms that will power future telecom networks.

This role offers the opportunity to create industry-leading innovations, influence standards, contribute to patents and publications, and collaborate with world-class researchers across Ericsson's global research organization. Whether your ambition is to become a recognized technical expert, research leader, standards delegate, or people leader, this role provides a strong platform for growth and impact.

You will do:

  • Conduct advanced research in cloud, compute, and distributed systems technologies for future telecom networks.

  • Explore and solve complex, open-ended research challenges in areas such as Advanced Cloud Hardware or Federated AI Compute.

  • Design, execute, and drive technical studies, proofs of concept, and innovation initiatives.

  • Develop novel solutions that contribute to patents, publications, standards, and business value.

  • Collaborate with researchers, product teams, and external stakeholders across Ericsson's global network.

  • Contribute to technology strategy and help shape the evolution of intelligent, high-performance network infrastructure.

  • Support standardization and ecosystem activities, including contributions to industry forums and organizations such as 3GPP.

  • Delivering high-quality research outcomes, publications, patents, and innovation disclosures.

  • Contributing to technical studies and proof-of-concept activities within the first 6 months.

  • Driving impactful research initiatives and producing tangible results within the first 12 months.

  • Building strong collaborations across research, product, and standards communities.

You will bring:

  • We are looking for research talent-not generic cloud or software engineers-with a strong academic/research foundation in compute systems.

  • Candidates should have an MSc/MTech/MRes/PhD/PostDoc from a leading research institution, with demonstrated research capability in high-performance computing, distributed systems, computer architecture, cloud/compute infrastructure, virtualization, AI systems, or federated/distributed AI. We value candidates who can independently identify important technical problems, develop novel solutions, and demonstrate their validity through rigorous analysis, experimentation, or prototypes.

Research Excellence:

  • Ability to identify significant technical problems and formulate novel research questions.

  • Strong analytical, experimental, and problem-solving capability.

  • Evidence of research output or technical innovation.

Compute & Systems:

  • Deep understanding of at least one relevant compute/systems area rather than broad familiarity with many technologies.

  • Strong programming/prototyping capability and experience working with real systems or experimental platforms.

Research Impact:

  • Ability to turn research into prototypes, patents, publications, standards contributions, or technology concepts.

  • Ability to collaborate with researchers across disciplines and geographies.

"All academic credentials must be from recognized and accredited institutions and are further subject to verification."
