Apprentice Nursery Assistant

St Mary's VC Academy, Pocklington, are recruiting a Nursery Assistant for our Nursery/Reception class.

We are a supportive and friendly school where you will have the opportunity to become part of a brilliant staff team with opportunities to develop your skills working under the direction of our teachers and EYFS Lead.

What you'll do

We have amazing pupils who are eager to learn and supportive families. This role is perfect for someone who wants to develop their experience working with young pupils in the nursery/reception classes.

You will learn:

• To support teaching and learning in our nursery
• To support the class teacher in all aspects of day-to-day school life
• To help our youngest pupils to develop their skills and understanding
• To communicate with parents and carers about their children
• To ensure that all pupils are safeguarded effectively

Training

This apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 6 of your working hours per week will be spent training or studying.

• This apprenticeship will be provided by Craven College
• It will involve workshops/classes with an Early Years Tutor every 2 weeks, and the tutor will make monthly visits to the workplace to meet with the apprentice to set work to be completed and make observations of real work activities with the children
• The apprentice will have 6 hours paid time per week for completion of assignments/activities and other forms of evidence for achievement of the Level 3 Apprenticeship
• You will also attend a Paediatric First Aid training course as part of this apprenticeship. More training information
• A high level of support with monthly tutor visits and taught lessons
• You will work alongside qualified professionals whilst undertaking on-the-job training

After the apprenticeship

Our nursery and reception class numbers are growing. We hope that the role will lead to the successful applicant staying with us and progressing after achieving the Level 3 Early Years Educator Apprenticeship.

Qualifications

• Essential: GCSE, English Language (grade Grade 4 or C / equivalent)
• Essential: GCSE, Maths (grade Grade 4 or C / equivalent)

Things to consider

• The successful applicant will be subject to passing a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check prior to appointment and starting work
• The role will sometimes be outside in the fresh air and working with these young infants and children does involve physical work too

• Hours: 37 hours a week. Working week: Monday to Friday.

Start - 8:00am.

Finish - 4:00pm.
