About the job

As an M&E Surveyor you will work directly alongside experienced surveyors in the team to learn the inspection, assessment and maintenance planning of mechanical and electrical systems within buildings. This is a hands-on apprenticeship designed to give you genuine responsibility on real projects from the start, supported by formal study.

What you'll do

  • Support surveyors in conducting inspections and assessments of mechanical and electrical installations, including HVAC, MVHR/heat recovery, BMS, LV electrical distribution, public health, fire detection and suppression, lighting, lifts and other building services.
  • Collect and record detailed asset data on site using AES's digital capture platforms (including GoReport and Asseticom), covering condition, functionality, location, attribute data, photographs and maintenance requirements.
  • Learn to assess systems against health and safety, building regulations, statutory compliance, and sector-specific standards (DfE, HTM, NHS, lender TDD criteria). Identify items that fall short of compliance and require remedial works.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of asset registers, life-cycle cost profiles and PPM schedules, supporting clients in planning for repair and replacement.
  • Support the drafting of survey reports, condition assessments and technical commentary, ensuring data is accurately recorded and clearly presented for client use.

After the apprenticeship

Following completion of the apprenticeship, we would support you with further learning and progression from assistant to Mechanical & Electrical Surveyor. There is a clear progression following this role and opportunities to become chartered with the IET or CIBSE.
