Full Stack Engineer

Spectrum IT Recruitment is working with a growing FinTech business looking for a mid-level Full Stack Software Engineer to develop and enhance financial modelling software used within the financial services industry. This opportunity would suit an engineer with strong Node.js, TypeScript and React experience who enjoys building backend services and frontend applications, solving technical problems and taking ownership of their work. You'll join a supportive team where engineers are encouraged to contribute ideas, improve development practices and use AI-assisted tooling to support delivery. The Role You'll contribute to the development, support and maintenance of financial modelling applications, alongside research and development for new tools and features. Your responsibilities will include:

• Developing backend services using Node.js and TypeScript, alongside frontend applications using React.
• Working with product and business stakeholders to turn requirements into reliable software.
• Building automated tests across frontend and backend applications.
• Supporting CI/CD pipelines, build systems and containerised workflows.
• Using AI coding tools to support development, refactoring and debugging, while reviewing generated code for quality, security and performance.
• Improving application reliability through code reviews, dependency scanning and automated testing.
• Contributing to Agile delivery using Jira and established Git branching practices. What We're Looking For
• Strong commercial full stack development experience using Node.js, TypeScript, JavaScript and React.
• Working knowledge of MongoDB, Redis, Bash and package management.
• Experience with CI/CD, Git, build systems and containerised pipelines.
• Strong testing skills, including unit, component, integration and end-to-end testing.
• Practical experience with AI development tools, such as Claude Code, to scaffold, refactor and debug applications.
• The ability to assess AI-generated code for security vulnerabilities, memory leaks and performance issues, using automated tests to validate behaviour.
• Familiarity with Agile development practices, including Scrum or XP.
• Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders. Desirable Experience
• AWS, including deploying, debugging and monitoring web services.
• Docker, Kubernetes, GitHub Actions and Argo CD.
• Infrastructure as code using Terraform.
• GraphQL APIs.
• Monorepo architecture and tools such as Nx.
• MySQL / AWS RDS.
• Financial services or financial modelling software. A computing-related degree would be welcome, but practical experience, technical ability and the quality of your work are more important.
