Java Software Engineer

Core Java Engineer Hybrid Working – London OR Edinburgh– 2 days a week on site. Financial Services Lorien's leading banking client is looking for Core Java Engineers to join a high-performing engineering team delivering customer-facing payment and card technology solutions. This is an opportunity to work on a large-scale digital payments platform covering Click to Pay, Cards and Apple Pay integrations, with significant API development and modern cloud-native engineering practices at its core. You'll be joining a team responsible for enhancing critical customer journeys, supporting upcoming mobile releases, and driving the evolution of a complex payments ecosystem that integrates with TSYS, core banking platforms, and a broad range of internal and external APIs. This role is based in London OR Edinburgh. This role will be Via Umbrella. Working in a Hybrid Model of 2 days a week on site. Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain Java-based microservices
• Build and enhance APIs supporting cards, payments and digital banking journeys
• Develop cloud-native applications within AWS
• Work across integrations with TSYS, core banking systems and third-party payment providers
• Support delivery of major mobile application releases
• Contribute to engineering best practices, CI/CD and automation
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve customer experience and platform performance Essential Skills & Experience
• Strong commercial experience with Java
• Proven experience building microservices architectures
• Strong API development and integration experience
• Experience working within AWS cloud environments
• Background in financial services, retail banking, payments or cards
• Experience delivering customer-facing digital products
• Knowledge of modern software engineering practices, testing and DevOps Desirable Experience
• Payments, cards or acquiring platforms
