Pavers Shoes

Company Description Pavers Shoes was founded in 1971 by Catherine Paver with a vision to offer comfortable, stylish footwear to a wide range of customers. From its early days selling shoes in village halls and at homeware parties, the company opened its first store in Scarborough in 1981, where Catherine's three sons joined the business. Today, Pavers Shoes is led by her grandson Jason, maintaining a strong family ethos and commitment to quality. The company has grown into a UK leader in the comfort footwear industry, operating over 190 stores nationwide and offering opportunities to work in a stable, established retail environment. Role Description We're looking for an ambitious Financial Controller to lead the Group's financial accounting, control and finance operations. Reporting to the Finance Director, you'll own the integrity of management and statutory reporting, the balance sheet, audit readiness and the day-to-day control environment. You'll act as the Finance Director's key deputy on accounting and control matters, giving them confidence that the numbers are right, the balance sheet is under control, the team knows what it owns, and material issues are never a surprise. The team has already made significant strides in strengthening processes and controls, and there's a real opportunity to build on that momentum. This is a chance to take it to the next level, embedding best practice, driving further automation, and making a visible lasting impact on how Finance supports the business. This is a hands-on, technically strong role for someone who enjoys moving between detailed financial accounting and control and bigger-picture improvements. What We're Looking For

  • An experienced, qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA).
  • Strong background in financial accounting, management reporting and balance sheet control.
  • Experience of leading statutory accounts and external audit processes.
  • Proven people-management and experience of team-development.
  • A track record of improving finance processes and controls.
  • Strong Excel and financial systems capability.
  • High standards and a strong "right first time" mindset, with the ability to challenge constructively and communicate clearly in plain language.
  • A pragmatic, low-ego approach, taking ownership, resolving routine issues without unnecessary escalation and raising material issues early.
  • Curiosity about better ways of working and enthusiasm for automation and continuous improvement.
