Data Engineer

Location: South West London (Hybrid: 2 days per week on-site) Employment Type: Permanent The Opportunity A market-leading SaaS provider in the building safety and compliance space is looking for their first dedicated Data Engineer. With over 15 years of industry leadership and steady annual growth, their platform processes tens of thousands of complex, highly regulated assessments each year. Thanks to significant internal productivity gains driven by AI, dedicated budget has been unlocked to establish a modern data platform completely from scratch. This is a true greenfield builder role. There is no bureaucracy or corporate bloat: you will take full ownership of the data landscape, architecting the foundations and turning raw operational data into powerful commercial insights and customer-facing software features. What You Will Do

• Architect, build, and configure the company's central cloud data warehouse from the ground up, implementing clean medallion architecture principles.
• Build automated, robust ETL/ELT data pipelines pulling from the core SaaS platform, CRM, and operational tools.
• Unlock visualisation and reporting capabilities for commercial teams (sales, marketing, leadership) and platform users.
• Collaborate closely with software engineering to model complex property safety data and feed structured analytics directly back into the software product.
• Own data governance, data modelling, testing, and operational reliability as the go-to technical authority. What They Are Looking For
• A Proven Builder: Gritty, practical individual contributor experience building data pipelines and warehouse environments from scratch. You understand the fundamental principles and trade-offs behind your technical decisions.
• Modern Cloud Stack: Hands-on experience within AWS ecosystems, working with Redshift (or alternatives such as Snowflake/BigQuery), DBT, and Python/SQL.
• Architecture: Strong working grasp of data modelling and medallion architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold layers).
• Background: Proven tenure within product-led, B2B SaaS environments. (This is a product-engineering individual contributor post; strictly not suited to advisory or pure consultancy profiles).
• Pragmatism: Clear communication skills, high ownership, and a focus on delivering working systems over theoretical frameworks.
