Lead Scada Engineer
JAMYou could do this job from home in Carlisle or Cornwall. My client has an office in Stoke if you want one. They don't need you in it. That's the first thing. The second is scope. They're a systems integrator working on substations from 400kV down to 11kV. They design them, build the control panels in-house, and put the SCADA on top. You'd be the one deciding how that SCADA gets done: the architecture, server redundancy, alarm philosophy, and the standards the rest of the team builds to. Yours. If you're at one of the big OEMs, you'll know what it's like to own one slice of a system and hand the rest over a wall. This is the whole thing, at a company small enough that your decisions stick. What you'd actually be doing You'll lead the SCADA team, bringing on the junior and mid-level engineers and reviewing their work. You'll set the architecture on each project, sign off the networks and protocols, and own OT security across the systems you deliver. You'll also run FAT and SAT, and lead the live cutovers where the lights have to stay on. When clients, PMs or the design team need a SCADA answer, it comes from you. You'll report to the Protection & Control Manager. The non-negotiables There are three, and only three: You've delivered SCADA or substation control systems on utility HV substations, through FAT, SAT and commissioning. You've configured IEC 61850 and either IEC 60870-5-104 or DNP3 hands-on, not just specified them. You've led other engineers, with or without the title. OT security governance (IEC 62443) is a bonus. If you've done the hands-on side but never owned it, still get in touch. Perm or contract? Either. Perm is £75k to £85k. Contractors, tell me your rate and we'll talk. About the company They're an established systems integrator working on UK transmission and distribution projects. They cover power system studies, substation design, protection and control, SCADA and telecoms, with their own panel manufacturing. I'll tell you who they are on a call. How to apply Send me your CV, even if it's out of date: w.mccaffrey@jam-talent.com Or call me on +44 161 905 5101, or message me here. If you meet the three points above, you'll hear back from me.
