Shape the future of sensing and wireless communication
What if the next generation of mobile networks could do more than connect people and devices? What if they could also sense, interpret, and understand the world around them?
At Ericsson, we are turning that vision into reality through Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) research. Join us as a researcher and help develop the sensing and tracking technologies that will influence future 5G and 6G radio networks.
About the Opportunity
You will join the AI & Technology Foresight unit within Business Area Networks. We explore what comes next across Ericsson's full technology portfolio-from antennas and radio systems to cloud, and turn promising ideas into real-world solutions. We are a community of nearly 400 researchers based across our main sites in Kista, Lund, and Paris. Our strength is the breadth of expertise we bring together: the capabilities to research, prototype, and build state-of-the-art mobile networks.
Within this environment, you will collaborate with experienced researchers and product teams to prove new concepts, challenge established thinking, and help set the direction for future radio network products. You will be part of Ericsson's Integrated Sensing and Communication research program, where we research, develop, and validate advanced ISAC systems for 5G and 6G. You will work with one of the world's most experienced teams in this field, contributing to research that connects theory, experimentation, and product development. Your work will focus on radar sensing, signal processing, and tracking in challenging environments; including dense urban areas and complex sea-clutter scenarios.
What you will do
-
Conduct research in radar sensing, signal processing, detection, and tracking algorithms.
-
Develop simulations and generate data for synthetic use cases focused on urban environments.
-
Investigate methods for robust radar sensing and tracking in challenging urban scenarios.
-
Explore extended-object radar trackers suitable for dense urban environments.
-
Develop algorithms for tracking sea objects in the presence of dense sea clutter.
-
Collaborate with product teams to integrate research results into Ericsson products in an efficient and optimized way.
-
Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies in sensing design and wireless communication.
-
Generate intellectual property in the ISAC area.
-
Share knowledge and communicate results with stakeholders across research and product development.
Skills you bring
-
A recently completed PhD, or equivalent research experience, focused on radar detection pipelines, signal processing, or related fields.
-
Strong understanding of radar sensing and the characteristics of different sensors, including sensor artefacts such as phase noise.
-
Practical experience working with environmental clutter, with hands-on knowledge of sea clutter considered essential.
-
Working knowledge of data fusion and end-to-end tracking pipelines.
-
Experience developing and evaluating both point-object and extended-object tracking algorithms.
-
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to connect theoretical research to practical prototypes and product solutions.
-
A passion for innovation, curiosity to explore new approaches, and the confidence to turn ideas into demonstrable results.
-
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the personal drive to challenge ideas respectfully, work across diverse teams, and deliver results.
