About the job

Referment is working with… a regional accountancy and advisory practice serving mainly family-owned and owner-managed businesses across a range of sectors. It is seeking an experienced audit leader to take responsibility for a substantial client portfolio and play a senior role in audit quality, team performance and client service. This position sits above client-management level and works closely with the practice's senior leadership. You will remain close to audit delivery while also shaping workflow, developing colleagues and helping clients understand the wider commercial issues around their accounts and controls. The Role

  • Lead the planning, risk assessment and completion of audit assignments across a varied portfolio.
  • Act as the senior client contact, presenting audit outcomes and building trusted relationships with business owners and directors.
  • Review audit files, resolve significant technical matters and report key findings to senior stakeholders.
  • Oversee assignment budgets, deadlines, resourcing and quality standards.
  • Lead and develop managers, seniors, assistants and trainees through coaching, feedback and appropriate work allocation.
  • Maintain compliance with UK auditing standards and contribute to quality-control and methodology improvements.
  • Work with tax and accounts specialists so clients receive joined-up advice beyond the immediate audit.
  • Contribute to proposals, tenders and the continued development of the audit service. What We're Looking For
  • ACA or ACCA qualification with significant post-qualification audit experience.
  • A strong recent background in UK external audit within an accountancy practice.
  • Experience managing an audit portfolio and leading teams at manager or senior-manager level.
  • Strong technical judgement and the confidence to make and explain difficult decisions.
  • Experience advising owner-managed businesses and communicating effectively with directors.
  • The organisation and commercial awareness needed to manage competing assignments and client priorities. Relevant Desirable Experience Experience contributing to tenders or new-business activity would be useful. Responsible Individual status, or progress towards it, is particularly relevant for candidates joining at Associate Director level. This could suit an established Audit Senior Manager, Audit Director or ambitious Audit Manager already operating beyond their title and ready to combine portfolio leadership with wider influence over people, quality and service development.
