Engineering Manager - Stockport - £80-£85k + 10% bonus - 1 day a week onsite / 4 days at home About the Role Overview We're looking for an Engineering Manager to lead software engineering teams while remaining actively involved in technical delivery. This is a player-coach role, suited to someone who enjoys developing people, improving engineering practices and contributing to architecture and technical decision-making. You'll be responsible for building high-performing teams, delivering business-critical software and helping create an environment where engineers can do their best work. Responsibilities

• Lead, coach and develop software engineers across one or more teams.
• Remain technically involved, contributing to architecture, design reviews and complex technical discussions.
• Support delivery of business-critical systems, APIs and services.
• Work closely with Product, Delivery and Architecture teams to define technical solutions.
• Drive improvements in engineering standards, testing, deployment and operational practices.
• Identify opportunities for automation and tooling that improve developer productivity.
• Support recruitment, interviewing and onboarding of new engineers.
• Mentor engineers at all levels and create clear development pathways.
• Balance delivery commitments with the long-term health and maintainability of the platform. Required Skills
• Experience leading software engineering teams in an Agile environment.
• A genuine player-coach leadership style, with the ability to switch between people leadership and technical contribution.
• Strong experience designing and delivering scalable distributed systems.
• Proven track record of coaching engineers and helping them progress in their careers.
• Experience working with senior stakeholders across business and technology functions.
• Strong focus on continuous improvement, team culture and engineering quality. Preferred Skills Technical Background Candidates should have experience across a number of the following technologies (Not all)
