Company Description Bell Taylor is a lawyer-led employment law & HR support practice that advises employers across the UK. Founded in 2013, the firm works with its clients on a fixed-fee retained basis, giving them unlimited day-to-day employment law advice and HR support without hourly billing. Its clients include barristers' chambers, solicitors, accountancy practices, manufacturers, professional sports organisations and charities. Many have been with the firm for over a decade, some since the very beginning, and nine out of ten renew. Bell Taylor is also the employment law partner of choice for several law firms that don't have their own employment department. Clients receive clear, commercial and practical advice from people who understand their business, supported by a trusted network of HR consultants, investigators and trainers. Role Description The Employment Law Adviser will take ownership of a portfolio of retained employer clients and act as their first point of contact. The adviser will give day-to-day advice on employment law and HR matters, including disciplinary and grievance issues, absence and performance management, redundancies, restructures and settlement agreements. The role also involves drafting and reviewing contracts, policies, handbooks and correspondence. Most client contact is by phone, email and video. The adviser will guide smaller employers through difficult situations and act as a sounding board for larger organisations with their own HR teams. The adviser will build long-term client relationships and identify where clients would benefit from Bell Taylor's wider services, such as investigations, training and hearing support. The adviser will have real autonomy over their casework, with senior legal support and first-class legal resources available. For anyone who wants to broaden their experience, there are opportunities to get involved in Employment Tribunal work, deliver client training and run webinars and seminars. This is a remote role open to candidates anywhere in the UK, with genuinely flexible working. Full-time or part-time applications are welcome. Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience advising employers on employment law and HR matters, gained as an employment paralegal, through legal training, or as an HR adviser with strong employment law knowledge
  • A sound working knowledge of UK employment law, including unfair dismissal, discrimination, redundancy and contractual rights
  • Experience drafting contracts, policies and formal correspondence such as disciplinary, grievance and consultation letters
  • Commercial awareness, with an understanding of timing, cost and reputation as well as the law
  • The ability to give a clear answer in plain English and to trust your own judgement
  • Discretion and empathy when handling sensitive people issues
  • Prompt, reliable responses to clients, usually the same day and always within 24 hours
  • The ability to build client relationships that last for years, and to manage your own caseload with minimal supervision
  • Experience of Employment Tribunal claims or settlement negotiations would be an advantage but is not essential
  • Confidence working remotely with standard office and case management software Applications close on Monday 19 October. Direct applications only, please – no agencies.
