PMLD Teaching Assistant - Croydon

Complex Needs & SLD | £95-£110 per day | Full-time

Reed Education is recruiting for a PMLD Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEND school in Croydon, supporting pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and additional complex needs.

This role is ideal for someone who understands that progress can look different for every pupil. It may be making a choice independently, engaging in a sensory activity, developing communication skills or building trust with a familiar adult.

The Role

As a PMLD Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils throughout the school day, working closely with teachers, therapists and other professionals.

Key responsibilities include:

• Supporting pupils with PMLD, SLD and complex needs
• Providing 1:1 and small-group support
• Assisting with sensory and differentiated learning activities
• Supporting communication using individualised strategies
• Encouraging independence and life skills
• Assisting with mobility and physical needs
• Supporting routines and transitions
• Providing personal care where required
• Working collaboratively with school staff and specialists

This is a rewarding, hands-on role requiring patience, resilience and a genuine passion for supporting young people with additional needs.

Requirements

Essential:

• Experience working with children, young people or vulnerable adults
• Caring and patient approach
• Strong communication skills
• Reliable and professional attitude
• Confidence providing practical support
• Willingness to assist with personal care

Desirable:

• PMLD experience
• SLD experience
• Autism (ASC)
• Complex needs
• Physical disabilities
• Sensory needs
• Non-verbal communication
• SEND school experience
