HBVC is seeking trustees with expertise in HR, education, health & safety and finance to help shape the future of our SEND college. Use your professional skills to improve outcomes for young people and strengthen governance. What difference will you make? By becoming a trustee at Heart of Birmingham Vocational College (HBVC), you will help create life-changing opportunities for young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) across Birmingham and the West Midlands. Our students face significant barriers to education, employment and independent living. Through specialist teaching, personalised support and strong employer partnerships, we help them develop the skills, confidence and independence needed to thrive in adulthood. As a trustee, your expertise will directly influence the strategic decisions that shape our future. Whether your background is in HR, employment law, education, health & safety or finance, you will help ensure the college remains sustainable, compliant, innovative and focused on delivering exceptional outcomes for students. HBVC is entering an exciting period of growth and development, with ambitions to expand opportunities for learners, strengthen governance and further enhance the quality of our provision. Trustees play a vital role in providing constructive challenge, supporting strategic planning and ensuring every decision reflects our commitment to improving lives. The impact of your contribution will be visible not only in the success of the organisation, but in the futures of the young people we serve. By sharing your skills and experience, you will help ensure that more learners achieve their potential, gain meaningful employment, build independence and become active members of their communities. This is an opportunity to use your professional expertise for a purpose that truly matters and to make a lasting difference to some of the most vulnerable young people in our region. What are we looking for? We are seeking a trustee who shares our commitment to improving the lives of young people with special educational needs and disabilities and who can bring strategic insight, sound judgement, and a willingness to provide both support and challenge. The successful trustee will be able to analyse information, ask constructive questions, contribute to informed decision-making, and work collaboratively as part of a diverse and committed Board. They will demonstrate integrity, independence of thought, strong communication skills, and a genuine passion for inclusion and social impact. As HBVC continues to grow and develop, we are looking for trustees who can help us navigate opportunities and challenges, strengthen governance, and ensure we remain ambitious for our learners. Depending on experience, trustees may serve on a committee and could contribute to future succession planning for committee chair roles. Above all, we are looking for someone who believes that every young person deserves the opportunity to live as independently as possible, secure meaningful employment, and participate fully in their community. This is an opportunity to use your skills and experience to help shape the future of a specialist college that changes lives every day. Hybrid What will you be doing? Our current board brings together professionals with expertise in governance, education, business and SEND. As HBVC continues to grow, key priorities include strengthening financial sustainability, governance, compliance, safeguarding and organisational development. We are seeking trustees with expertise in HR, employment law, finance, education or health & safety who can contribute to committee work and strategic decision-making. This is a unique opportunity to help transform the lives of young people with SEND while shaping the future of a thriving specialist college.
