With more than 26,000 fellows and members, the Royal College of Anaesthetists is the UK's third largest medical royal college and the professional body for the NHS's largest hospital specialty. Our employees and volunteers deliver a wide-ranging portfolio of education, training, assessment, professional support, advocacy and policy work, working alongside our members to support them throughout their careers while representing the interests of our specialties and the patients they care for. From setting the standards for recruitment into anaesthetics training, to developing and maintaining curricula, quality assurance and guidance, portfolio pathway assessments and the setting, maintenance and development of examinations, the Director of Education, Training and Examinations continually upholds and develops standards for anaesthetists in the UK and overseas. Newly settled in our Jubilee House headquarters and developing a new corporate strategy, the College is entering a pivotal phase in its history as we look for our new Director of Education, Training and Examinations. This position will play a crucial role in supporting more than 4,700 anaesthetists in training, 27,000 users of our Lifelong Learning Platform and 170 examiners, who assess over 3,000 examination candidates per year - alongside 500 College Tutors, Regional Advisers and senior trainers across the UK. Reporting to the Chief Executive and joining the Executive Team, the Director of Education, Training and Examinations will oversee the UK anaesthetic training programme and our curricula, credentials and assessment frameworks, ensuring they remain valid, reliable, fair and inclusive, with robust arrangements for standard setting, moderation and quality assurance. You will safeguard the rigour of our examinations with equality, diversity and inclusion embedded throughout assessment and analysis of outcomes. You will also drive innovation in learning and assessment, and develop commercially viable opportunities to grow the College's education and examinations expertise in the UK and internationally. We are looking for a senior strategic and inspiring leader with a proven record of leading education, training, examinations or professional standards in a complex organisation, and of delivering high-quality outcomes across substantial budgets. You understand education and assessment principles deeply enough to lead specialist teams and hold rigour even under operational and financial pressure. Collaborative and credible, you will build strong relationships with regulators, statutory education bodies, the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges, NHS organisations and senior colleagues, and lead change that delivers measurable results.
