Pharmacy Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship - Become A Registered Pharmacy Technician and ACT

at B D HEALTHCARE UK Skilled Worker Employer

The Level 3 Pharmacy Apprenticeship offers a thorough training programme, enabling individuals to become competent pharmacy technicians registered with the GPhC. The programme blends theoretical learning and hands-on experience, creating a comprehensive education that readies apprentices for successful careers in pharmacy.

What you'll do

No two days are the same in our pharmacy. As your skills grow, you will work towards:

  • Dispensing and supply: preparing, labelling, and dispensing prescriptions accurately under the supervision of a pharmacist and, once qualified, carrying out the final accuracy check on prescriptions dispensed by others
  • Patient-facing services: supporting and, when trained, delivering NHS services such as Pharmacy First, flu vaccinations, hypertension case-finding, the New Medicine Service, and smoking cessation support
  • Patient care: advising on over-the-counter medicines, helping patients to manage their medication regimens, and signposting to the pharmacist where needed
  • Pharmacy operations: managing stock, ordering, date-checking, and maintaining accurate and confidential patient records

You will be supported throughout by our experienced pharmacists and technicians, with dedicated time set aside for coursework and assessments.

Training

A Level 3 Pharmacy Apprentice will undergo a combination of academic learning and practical training to develop the necessary skills and knowledge required for the role.

The training typically includes:

  • Academic Learning: Apprentices study various modules covering essential topics such as pharmacy law and ethics, human anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, pharmaceutical calculations, and dispensing processes
  • Practical Experience: Apprentices work in a pharmacy setting under the supervision of qualified pharmacy professionals, gaining hands-on experience in different aspects of pharmacy practice, including dispensing medications, managing stock, providing health advice, and maintaining patient records
  • Assessment and Evaluation: Throughout the apprenticeship, apprentices are assessed on their progress and performance via written exams, practical assessments, and ongoing evaluations from their supervisors. They must also complete a final assessment, known as the End-Point Assessment (EPA), which evaluates their competence in the role of a pharmacy technician
  • Functional Skills Level 2 in English and maths are also required to be completed before the EPA, if applicable

Upon successful completion of the Level 3 Pharmacy Apprenticeship, participants will receive a Level 3 qualification in Pharmacy Services Skills (or equivalent).

This qualification enables them to register with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) as a qualified pharmacy technician, opening up several career opportunities within the pharmacy sector.

After the apprenticeship

This apprenticeship is the start of a genuine career, not just a qualification. On completion, you will:

  • Be registered with the GPhC as a pharmacy technician
  • Be qualified as an accuracy checking pharmacy technician (ACPT), able to carry out the final check on dispensed items – freeing the pharmacist to focus on clinical services and placing you at the heart of the pharmacy's service provision
  • Be able to deliver a broad portfolio of NHS community pharmacy services, making you a highly employable, well-rounded technician

High-performing apprentices will be offered a permanent pharmacy technician position with us, with clear routes into senior technician, services lead, or management roles as our company continues to grow.
