UI and UX Designer - Design System and AI Design Experience. Ad HOC.

About us We are Totally.tech, a Software Development Company developing websites, bespoke software and mobile apps across all sectors, including Property, Finance, Health, Education and Charity.  We work with a number of freelance designers, however increasingly, our clients expect us to leverage AI more when producing some of their online design assets.  The role This role is a part-time / ad-hoc freelance role; you will be called upon as client projects are secured. We expect you to be an experienced UI and UX designer with significant Claude Design (or comparable AI design) experience. You need to understand where AI works well within the overall design process and is not afraid of pushing AI usage to help ‘deliver' expediently. You will be working closely with our PMs and our development team, and likely to be capturing detailed design briefs from clients. You'll help us set up design systems in Claude Design and build the guardrails and checks to prevent output looking formulaic. This role is a mixture between ‘hands on' design and guiding / collaborating with the team. You will also:

• Checklists and Claude skills our team can use on future projects
• Build an "AI slop" check, to catch generic-looking output
• Set accessibility guardrails so designs meet WCAG 2.2 from the start
• Help us define a standard process for requesting corrections / modifications to designs
• Run short sessions with our team to share what works Required experience:
• A strong background in UI / UX design & creative production, with a strong portfolio
• Hands-on use of AI tools in a design workflow, ideally Claude or Claude Design (or comparable AI design tools and a clear appetite to go deep on Claude)
• Experience designing both ‘mobile first' and to WCAG 2.2 accessibility standards
• A clear view of what makes AI-generated design look generic, and how to prevent it
• Comfortable and flexible to work collaboratively with our team as and when
• Setting up design systems in AI tools from a brief
• Ideally experience writing structured prompts, checklists or Claude skills
• Flexibility to respond at short notice when a project needs it This role will start off ad-hoc as projects are secured. We expect the role to progress to a part-time role with commitment / retainer. You must have excellent verbal and written English communication skills, ideally you will be UK / Europe-based to be able to work within our (London) timezone.
