SC Clearance - Head of Engineering

Location: Fully Remote (UK Based) Salary: Up to £110,000 Role: Head of Engineering (AI startup) Active SC Clearance Required Are you an experienced engineering leader looking to play a key role in delivering cutting-edge AI solutions for high-profile government projects? We're working with an AI consultancy that is helping public sector organisations solve complex challenges through modern technology. Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of projects, they're looking for a Head of Engineering to lead their technical function and help shape the next stage of the business. This is a fully remote opportunity for someone based in the UK who is passionate about building high-performing teams, driving technical excellence, and delivering impactful solutions within secure environments. You'll be joining a highly experienced team working on confidential government programmes under NDA, leveraging AI and modern software engineering practices to deliver solutions that make a real difference. As Head of Engineering, you'll take ownership of technical strategy, engineering leadership, team development, and delivery standards. Working closely with senior stakeholders, you'll help define the technical vision, influence project direction, and create an engineering culture centred around quality, innovation, and continuous improvement. You'll be responsible for:

• Defining and executing the engineering strategy across multiple projects
• Leading, mentoring, and growing engineering teams
• Driving architectural decisions and technical best practice
• Collaborating with leadership to align technology with business goals
• Ensuring successful delivery of complex government-focused projects
• Supporting client and stakeholder engagements when required
• Helping shape the future direction of the engineering function You'll need experience in:
• Engineering leadership within software development environments
• Technical strategy, architecture, and long-term roadmapping
• Managing and developing high-performing engineering teams
• Modern technology stacks including Python, AI, Node.js, React, and TypeScript
• Delivering complex software solutions in regulated or secure environments
• Working closely with clients, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams
• AI, machine learning, or data-driven product development (highly desirable) Essential Requirements:
• Active SC Clearance
• UK-based and eligible to work in the UK
• Experience leading engineering teams at Manager, Head of Engineering, or Director level
