Are you a qualified finance leader with a strong understanding of e-commerce and direct-to-consumer (D2C) business models? Can you combine strategic financial leadership with strong FP&A expertise and a commercially focused approach to business performance? Are you confident partnering with a senior leadership team and Board, translating financial and commercial data into insights that drive business growth? MacGregor Black is partnering with an established consumer-facing business to appoint a Head of Finance & Operations. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing business with a strong direct-to-consumer proposition and a significant e-commerce focus. The company is seeking a commercially minded finance leader who can bring financial rigour, strategic insight and operational oversight, helping the leadership team make informed decisions and support the next stage of its development. Working closely with the senior leadership team, you will take ownership of financial planning, forecasting, performance analysis and Board reporting, while overseeing an established finance team of three, including a Management Accountant. This is a senior, influential position offering genuine flexibility, with a three-day working week and the expectation of being on site approximately one day per week. The Role

  • Lead the financial planning and analysis function, overseeing budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling and longer-term business planning.
  • Provide commercially focused analysis of business performance, identifying risks, opportunities and areas for improvement.
  • Develop meaningful financial and commercial insights to support strategic decision-making across the senior leadership team.
  • Prepare and present high-quality Board packs, management reports and performance updates, ensuring key stakeholders have the information required to make informed decisions.
  • Drive visibility of e-commerce and D2C performance, understanding the metrics that underpin online trading, profitability and sustainable growth.
  • Partner with commercial and operational stakeholders to analyse sales performance, gross margin, promotional activity, customer acquisition costs, conversion rates, average order value and customer lifetime value.
  • Oversee financial control, reporting, cash flow management and the integrity of financial information.
  • Lead, develop and support the existing finance team of three, ensuring robust processes, controls and reporting disciplines are maintained.
  • Provide oversight across wider business operations, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, processes and overall business performance.
  • Maximise the effectiveness of existing financial systems, including SAP, ensuring reporting supports the needs of a digitally focused business.
  • Act as a trusted commercial partner to the senior leadership team, challenging assumptions and translating business strategy into measurable financial outcomes. What We're Looking For
  • A qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with significant experience in a senior finance leadership position.
  • A strong background in e-commerce and direct-to-consumer (D2C) businesses, with a clear understanding of the commercial drivers behind online trading and digital business performance.
  • Demonstrable FP&A expertise, including ownership of budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling and performance analysis.
  • A strong understanding of e-commerce trading disciplines and KPIs, with the ability to engage credibly with commercial and digital teams on the drivers of online revenue and profitability.
  • Experience preparing Board packs and presenting financial performance, risks and opportunities to senior stakeholders.
  • Previous experience managing or developing a finance team, with the ability to provide effective leadership while empowering others to deliver.
  • Strong systems experience, ideally including SAP, alongside familiarity with e-commerce platforms such as Shopify.
  • A commercially astute mindset, with the ability to look beyond the numbers and influence decisions across the wider business.
  • A hands-on, adaptable approach, comfortable operating at both strategic and operational levels within an entrepreneurial environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to challenge, influence and build strong relationships across the business.
  • The ability to operate effectively in a part-time leadership capacity, prioritising the areas where you can add the greatest value.
