Skillful
Recruitment Agency

📌 Role: Senior Consultant/ Manager, Credit Risk Modelling 📌 Location: Central London - 5 days in office 📌 Salary: £70,000 - £100,000 This is a role where you actually get to run things rather than just deliver pieces of them, holding a client relationship, shaping the methodology on an engagement, and training up the people working alongside you, with a director there to review the outcome rather than hover over every step along the way. The company itself is small and growing fast, and it's built up a client list that includes some genuinely well-known names in banking despite its size. At this level you end up shaping how the place actually works rather than just following a process someone else wrote, since the methodology you put together becomes the way the whole team tackles that kind of problem, and the people you train along the way become the bench you'll lean on later. You'll be the one holding the client relationship between steering meetings, having the harder conversations when scope slips or findings land badly, and picking up the politics of the account in the same way you'd pick up the detail of the portfolio. The work itself moves around enough to keep it interesting rather than repetitive, so you might spend a few months leading an IFRS 9 rebuild for a specialist lender before moving on to take an IRB development all the way through to supervisory submission, or digging into somebody else's model estate and standing behind what you find when you present it back. You'll want real depth in at least two of IFRS 9, IRB, scorecard development and model validation, along with enough range across the others to pick them up quickly when a project needs it, and the kind of judgement that lets you choose a method, write the case for it properly, and hold your ground in front of a validator or supervisor. Credit risk sits at the centre of what the company does, but there's data engineering and applied AI work happening alongside it too, often for the same clients, so if that side of things interests you there's room to spend time there as projects allow. AI tools have become part of how the team works day to day as well, and the people who do well here tend to be the ones building their own prompts and shortcuts and sharing them around rather than keeping them to themselves, and from this point the path continues on toward Manager and beyond. So, if you have:

  • Solid experience in credit risk modelling, model validation or a closely related quantitative role
  • Depth in at least two of IFRS 9, IRB, scorecard development and model validation, with the range to pick up the rest
  • A track record of owning a workstream end to end, covering the method, the timetable and the write-up, with a director reviewing rather than steering
  • Experience reviewing other people's models and code, and giving feedback people can actually act on
  • A strong degree in a quantitative discipline such as maths, stats, econometrics, physics, engineering, computer science or finance, with an MSc useful but not required
  • Strong Python and working SQL, with version control as second nature And can:
  • Choose a method and make the written case for it to a validator or supervisor
  • Run a session with a client, take the pushback without losing your footing, and flag early when something's going to be late
  • Plan the resourcing on a workstream and say so when it won't hold
  • Train people rather than just correct them, walking through the reasoning behind a choice rather than handing down the answer
  • Spot the next piece of work before the client even thinks to ask for it then this is worth a conversation. It's the kind of ownership and progression that's genuinely hard to find at this level, with a company worth growing alongside rather than just working for. We're happy to send over the full spec or just have a chat about what makes this team worth joining, so let us know what works best for you.
