Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a motivated and highly organised Health and Safety Officer to join our Health and Safety Team. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to health and safety services within a complex healthcare environment.

The role provides essential operational, governance, and administrative support to the Trust's Health and Safety Managers and Competent Advisers. You will coordinate health and safety activities, support audits and inspections, maintain compliance records, monitor actions arising from incidents and risk assessments, and assist in producing reports and performance information.

A key aspect of the role involves supporting health and safety governance arrangements, including organising meetings, preparing agendas and papers, producing minutes, maintaining action trackers, and monitoring agreed actions. This includes acting as secretary to the Trust's Health and Safety Group.

We are looking for someone with excellent organisational and communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities while building effective relationships across the Trust. In return, you'll play an important role in supporting compliance, continuous improvement, and a positive safety culture.

Main duties of the job

This role is ideally suited to an organised, detail-oriented individual who can manage multiple priorities and work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders. You will support health and safety activities, governance processes, compliance monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives that promote the safety of staff, patients, visitors, and contractors.

Key responsibilities include providing administrative and organisational support to the Health and Safety Team; coordinating governance arrangements; organising meetings and preparing agendas, papers, minutes, and action trackers; and acting as secretary to the Trust's Health and Safety Group and other governance meetings.

The postholder will produce reports and assurance information; maintain health and safety records and databases; monitor actions arising from audits, inspections, incidents, and risk assessments; support compliance activities and workplace inspections; assist with incident investigations; and contribute to the development and implementation of health and safety policies and improvement initiatives.

The successful candidate will have excellent organisational, communication, and administrative skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to analyse and present information clearly. They will be confident managing competing priorities, producing high-quality documentation, and building effective working relationships across the Trust.
