We have an exciting opportunity for a Specialist

Biomedical Scientist in South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to

join the Biochemistry Department at James Cook University Hospital. You

will be responsible for maintaining high professional standards while

supporting the delivery of an effective Blood Science service. Working

professionally accountable to the Blood Science Service Manager, you will

manage your own professional development, participate in relevant training

activities, and ensure your knowledge and skills remain up to date with the

changing demands of the service. You will support continuous improvement by

regularly reviewing your performance, developing personal development plans,

and taking responsibility for your actions. You will also be expected to

demonstrate effective time management, prioritisation, teamwork, and

self-motivation while recognising your own strengths and areas for development

to enhance your contribution to the department.

Main duties of the job

As a Specialist Biomedical Scientist, you will be

responsible for performing routine laboratory activities within the

Biochemistry Department, rotating across relevant sections of the specialty and

following approved methodologies, protocols, and procedures. You will manage

your workload independently, contributing to the delivery of diagnostic

services through a 24/7 shift system, including weekend working, extended

hours, and out-of-hours cover where required. You will support the induction

and competency development of Biomedical Scientists, Trainee Biomedical

Scientists, Healthcare Science Support Workers, and other laboratory staff in

line with departmental requirements. You will maintain effective working

relationships with laboratory teams, Pathology services, and clinical

colleagues, ensuring clear communication, participation in departmental

discussions, and timely resolution of issues within your area of expertise. You

will also follow Trust guidance relating to infection prevention, control, and

health and safety standards while promoting a respectful and professional

working environment.
