Health and Safety Technician - Internal

This post is a key position in the Health and Safety Team, providing support to Health and Safety Advisors in the delivery of their responsibilities across the whole of the organisation.

The role involves technical measurement, assessment and reporting to managers, on typical workplace hazards (training provided). It is the first point of contact within the team, for queries and requests for support and will provide basic health and safety advice and guidance appropriate to role and knowledge.

This role provides full support to the Health and Safety Committee and other sub-groups and workstreams relevant to the work of the team.

Main duties of the job

This position is part of the Trust's response to developing,implementing and embedding the principles and practice of health,safety and risk management within the Trust.

The key responsibilities of the post are to provide day to day support to the Health and Safety Team and to ensure that the Risk Management System is used to optimise health and safety risk. This will include:

• Carrying out technical assessments (training will be given) for workplace hazards such as noise, slips and trips etc and producing reports for Managers.
• Recording data accurately and promptly.Ensuring all accidents/incidents are appropriately graded and categorised and actions are taken to reduce health and safety risk.
• Extracting and analysing information from the incident management system on individual events and trends.
• Providing additional support to the Health, Safety and Risk Advisors through the provision of basic health, safety and risk advice and first line technical contact for the Care Groups

About us

We operatefrom three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, andUlverstonCommunity Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies,daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
