At Universal Quantum, we aim to make the world a better place by developing a new computer technology. Together, we are creating truly impactful quantum computers. Our machines will be capable of solving problems until now considered impossible, with applications ranging across a broad range of industries, including healthcare, materials and aerospace.

We're looking for an Electronics Engineer to help enable the next generation of quantum technologies.

What You'll Accomplish

  • Design and build advanced test rigs for electrical and mechanical characterization of quantum microfabricated devices (trap chip)
  • Develop meticulous test plans and protocols for validating chip performance
  • Conduct experimental validation and characterization of electronics systems to meet stringent performance requirements for quantum hardware
  • Collaborate with chip designers and electronics engineers to improve test coverage and ensure compatibility with emerging quantum chip architectures
  • Critically evaluate testing methodologies and propose improvements for efficiency and accuracy
  • Document test procedures, results, and findings for reproducibility and knowledge sharing

Requirements

The 3 Most Critical Attributes We'll Use to Compare Candidates

  1. Strong electronics engineering capabilities for device/chip testing
  2. Electromechanical engineering knowledge to create precision test rigs
  3. Excellent communication skills to coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and ensure testing needs are met and improved

Must-have Skills

  • PCB layout and schematic design using ECAD tools (e.g., Altium)
  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills
  • Familiarity with test/electronics equipment (VNA, Spectrum Analysers, TDR, oscilloscopes)
  • Experience measuring high-frequency electrical signals and ensuring signal integrity
  • Knowledge of embedded systems and FPGA-based control for automated testing
  • Master/BSc Degree in electronics engineering or a related discipline

Nice-to-have Skills

  • Experience cryogenic temperatures and testing sensitive quantum devices
  • Mechanical CAD proficiency for fixture and rig design
  • Background in RF engineering, metrology, or instrumentation
  • Experience developing automated testing frameworks using scripting languages (Python, MATLAB)
  • Understanding EMC and high-speed digital design constraints in quantum systems
